all you need to know about
Being engaged is such a special and exciting chapter in life and it is worth being documented. Your photos are meant to be a reflection of your relationship and what makes you unique as a couple. And we want to capture these memories for you in the most natural, authentic and worry-free way.
It is important that your photographer should be a person who can make you feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera, someone who can truly see the uniqueness of your personalities and the beauty of your relationship through the lens.
During your engagement session, we will be giving you lots of feedback and guidance. Almost no one have a clue how to act naturally in from of the camera, unless you are a professional model. But most of us aren’t. If you hire us, we promise to effortlessly direct your through the entire session, making sure you are having the best photography experience and enjoying this fun time together.
Why is an engagement session important?
After having an amazing engagement session experience, you will feel much more confident in yourself and that will reflect on your wedding day photos. Secondly, you will have a wonderful collection of photos in non-wedding attire, that you can use for save-the-dates, wedding guest sign-in book, print gifts to surprise your family and friends.
And lastly, an engagement session is a great opportunity for us to connect with you on a more personal level and get to know each other better. We no longer are going to be some strangers showing up on your wedding day. You will have a much better idea of our working style and how we will direct you. That means less time for us making you feel more comfortable in front of the camera and more time for your wedding photos!
ENGAGEMENT SESSION PROCESS
The engagement session lasts up to 90 minutes. This is an ideal timeframe for us to warm you up a little and make you two feel more comfortable in front of our lens, as well as go to two different location ( with 5-10 minutes from each other) and an outfit change. Just because it is sometimes impossible to choose from just one outfit, you can go with a more dressy and elegant look for the first location and then change into a more casual outfit for the second location.
If you have pets, they are also very welcome! We have done tons of engagement sessions with dogs, and we would absolutely love meeting you furry friends. They always are such a wonderful addition to the engagement session and bring lots of life in it!
ENGAGEMENT SESSION OUTFIT TIPS
When choosing an outfit for your engagement session, there are a few things to keep in mind. Most importantly, you have to feel comfortable and confident in what you wear. Whether it is a dressy cocktail attire, or jeans and a cosy sweater, that outfit has to flatter you and make you happy about yourself. As wedding photographers, we would love to give you a few recommendations on what looks great and what things to avoid when choosing a perfect engagement session outfit:
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Schedule your wedding hair and makeup trial for your engagement photos.
- Fingernail polish - use light or neutral. You don’t want your nails to be a distraction from your engagement ring.
- Have your pockets emptied (especially for guys).
- Avoid baggy clothing, sweats, clothes with prints, strong patterns or wordings, jogging suites, athletic shoes, flip-flops, crocs, uggs, cargo shorts, cargo pants. All these are not very photogenic.
- Pick neutral, pastel and solid colors. Avoid outfits that are too multi-colored, it will be harder to make it look great with different backgrounds.
- Choose outfits that compliment each other, but don’t look too matchy. Try to stay away from outfits that look very busy as they can be distractive for photos.
- Incorporate accessories: a statement necklace, a bracelet, a nice hat or scarf can make the simplest outfit stand out and more unique.
- Materials like lace, chiffon, organza, eyelet, solid cotton, wool, leather look great on photos, have amazing texture and don’t wrinkle too much.

ENAGEMENT SESSION TIMIMNG
The best start time for an engagement session is around two hours before the sunset. During that time the sun is lower in the sky and the light becomes softer and more flattering for the skin tones. These few hours before the sunset are also know as a ‘golden hour’ that wedding photographers obsess about!
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE
Since most of our weekends are mainly reserved for weddings, we schedule the engagement sessions on Mondays through Thursdays.
We kindly ask you to let us know as least two-three months in advance about your desired date for an engagement session to ensure availability. Some months like May, September and October are busier for us than other months, so the sooner you inquire about any specific date, the better.
We look forward to documenting your love story!
