As a Philadelphia wedding photographer, I am frequently being asked about my favorite locations to photograph at in Philadelphia. And this is one of my favorite questions to answer. I can go on and on what locations I love the best, which ones are great during a particular season, which ones have the best light, the most beautiful architecture and so on. Being a wedding photographer who works in Philadelphia pretty much every weekend, I had a chance to explore so many different locations, both popular and not as much.
When it come to choosing a primary location for your wedding day photographs, there are a few factors you should keep in mind. If you are hoping to have your pictures taken somewhere in the historical part of Philadelphia, you will likely need to obtain a wedding photography permit. You can find more information on what locations in Philadelphia require a permit here and here.
Second, you want to make sure that the location of your choice will wok great for both the couple's portraits and the big bridal party group. It is hard to arrange a nice bridal party photo in a very crowded location like a Rittenhouse Square, for example.
One of our favorite locations to work at in Philadelphia is the Washington Square Park. This location has some incredible backdrops and the most beautiful natural light. As Philadelphia wedding photographers, we pay a lot of attention to the necessity of diverse backgrounds for the wedding photos, texture, light and the Washington Square Park can provide all that.
